“Gibi Kokmak”: Parazit Filmi ve Parazitler


Özet
 
Bu yazıda, Bong Joon-ho’nun Parazit (Gisaengchung, 2019) filminden yola çıkarak “koku” meselesine odaklanacağım. Filmde yoksul Ki-taek (Song Kang-ho) karakterinin kokusundan bahseden varsıl işveren Mr. Park (Lee Sun-kyun) bu kokuyu, metro kokusuna benzetir. Yoksul insanların ulaşım aracı olarak met­ro, yoksullara özgü bir biçimde kokar. Yoksulların özgün bir kokusu vardır an­cak özgün bir kokuya sahip olmak yoksullara özgü değildir. Fahişeler, siyahlar, Yahudiler, göçmenler vb. de kendine özgü kokulara sahiptir. Yaşadıkları tarihsel koşullar, onların kokularının sistem tarafından belirlenmesine ve sınıflandırılma­sına yol açar. Ben de Ki-taek’in kokusundan yola çıkarak tarihin “parazitler”inin kokularından bahsedeceğim. Önce, biyolojik ve fizyolojik olarak koku, kokma fe­nomenlerinden yani kokusal (olfactory) sistemden bahsedeceğim. Ardından ko­kunun toplumsal ve sınıfsal bir mesele olduğunu iddia edeceğim. Kokanlardan ve koklayanlardan bahsederek her ikisinin de toplumsal, kültürel ve sınıfsal belirlenmişliklerini tarihten ve sanattan örneklerle ortaya koymaya çalışacağım.

“Smells Like”: Parasite Movie and Parasites


Abstract

In this paper, I will focus on “odour” issue based on Bong Joon-ho’s film, Parasite (Gisaengchung, 2019) . In the film, a wealthy employer, Mr. Park, likens the odour of Ki-taek, a poor man, to the odour of subways. Subways smell like poor people who use it for transportation. Poor people have a typical odour. But this is not a case just for poor people; prostitutes (puta), blacks, Jews, immigrants etc. also have typical odours. Historical circumstances in which these people live determine and cat­egorize their odours. Based on the odour of Ki-taek, I will discuss the odours of “parasites” of the history. Firstly, I will focus on olfactory system which includes biological and physiological aspects of odour and smelling. Then, I will argue that odour is a social issue and class issue. I will present examples from history and art to illustrate that smell is determined in social, cultural and class terms.
